The James town Good News Club is a Christian group which was founded in 2011 to teach children in the James Town community about God and his love for mankind. Soon after it was founded, it became evident that the children of the community would also need to be supported in more practical ways, as they lived in very deprived conditions. Many of the students in the Good News Club were not attending school regularly since their parents could not afford it.
In 2014, the coordinator of Gaede Scholarships for Scripture Union Ghana was made aware of Gaede’s desire to sponsor more children from less than ideal family backgrounds. Knowing that the founder of the James Town Good news club was looking for Educational Financing for several of the clubbers, made an appeal for Gaede to consider sponsoring children of the Good News Club. Gaede graciously agreed to sponsor 5 James Town Children. The names of these children (with their ages and classes in March 2014) are as follows:
Ishmeal Nii Amartey Tagoe dropped out of the Good News Club along the line, and so stopped benefiting from the Gaede Scholarship.
Apart from one James Town beneficiary who is an orphan, the other James Town Gaede scholarship beneficiaries are cared for by single mothers who are petty traders or hair dressers with very little income and other dependents. Gaede sponsorship covers tuition and educational materials as well as pocket money and transportation for boarding school students. At the time that Gaede stepped in to fund their education, these students were at home, though school had resumed, because their mothers, who were unemployed at the time, had not been able to find money to pay for their fees. Thanks to the Gaede scholarship these children are now assured of uninterrupted education term after term.
To God be the glory!
